The University of Essex dates back to the 18th century and is is located in 200 acres of beautiful parkland just outside the historic centre of Colchester. The buildings, older and newer, are connected to each other by sidewalks, thus forming a small autonomous town, which has almost everything: bank, theater, cafe, coffee shop, gallery, mini market and of course excellent sports facilities with a many outdoor and indoor courts. We urge you not to miss a walk in the campus pond! The safety of the students is considered very important, therefore there are staff available 24/7 on the campus as well as closed circuit CCTV monitoring. In addition, the university with its state of the art facilities is close to some of Colchester's most famous attractions: Colchester Castle, inside which there is also a museum, and Colchester Zoo!
The campus is well served by bus services to/from the city centre, bus stops located within the campus.
